I was born in New York and raised in Pennsylvania, where I learned early the value of discipline, hard work, and accountability. In school, I committed myself fully—to both academics and athletics—earning varsity letters and good grades. That dedication led me to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, where the expectations were high and the margin for error was low.
While finishing my college career and a degree in criminology, I traveled to Arizona to experience the enchanted desert of the southwest and literally fell in love with Phoenix in 10 seconds. While there, I set up an internship with the Phoenix Police Department. After my final semester, I moved to Phoenix to complete that internship in the Chief’s Office, helping develop a police pursuit tracking system that gave officers critical information to keep officers and citizens safe. It was practical, measurable, and it worked.
In 1994, I raised my right hand and joined the U.S. Border Patrol in San Diego. One day stands out—rescuing my supervisor from a ravine during a heat emergency. I was honored with Agent of the Month, but the real reward was simple- making sure a fellow agent went home that night.
When I returned to Phoenix, I built a statewide training program for law enforcement—thousands of officers sharpened their investigative skills because of it. At the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission, I authored research reports and managed millions of dollars in grant funding, making sure resources reached the men and women who needed them most. For nearly a decade, I taught college courses on criminal justice and leadership. My goal was never to fill a classroom—it was to prepare future public servants for the weight of responsibility they would carry.
In the private sector, I’ve guided organizations through change, led leadership initiatives, and managed digital transformations. Alongside that, my faith has been my compass. Since 1999, when I became a born-again Christian, I’ve served in leadership roles in two churches and mentored children in my community.
I’ve been married for 24 years. I’m the proud father of three adult children. And I believe in staying sharp—whether that’s through reading, CrossFit, mountain biking, or even keeping time on the drums.
I’ve spent a lifetime learning that leadership is not about titles or accolades. It is about service, responsibility, hard work, and the quiet determination to do the right thing—even when it’s hard.
